So I decided to start this blog to keep in touch with everyone. As a fan of alliteration, I felt that this Spanglish title (thanks to Ricky Martin) was appropriate for my adventures overseas! I'll try to post as frequently as possible, but look out for e-mails and pictures on Facebook!
As this week of orientation in Granada comes to a close, I'm sitting here to reflect not only on the abrupt cultural changes that I've swallowed during these past 10 days, but also the more relaxing aspects of my acclimation to Spanish culture. Water has been a major source of relaxation during this trip.
On Friday, my two roommates and I took a trip to "Los banos Arabes" (Arabian Baths) - a touristy must-do in Granada. We didn't know what to expect, but we were completely entranced upon arrival. For over 90 minutes we transitioned through a series of six warm baths of different temperatures marked with a dose of cold water in between. The package also included a 15 minute massage and Moroccan tea! I was completely in my element; the scents, dim lighting, and sensations were second to none.
The week concluded with a trip to the Mediterranean Sea (my first) along the southern coast of Spain. Although the water was surprisingly cold (despite my comfort with the Maine coast), the mere presence of the water was simply soothing. I certainly hope to return some point soon!
Water is certainly of great value here... It is served sparingly at meals, and a bottle of agua at a meal costs more than alcohol!
Un beso.
